Why It's Worth Doing First

📏

Depth Is the Whole Game

A lot of older lofts still carry 100mm or less, sunken further over the years. Getting back to the full recommended depth is the single cheapest improvement most houses can make.

✖️

Crossed, Not Stacked

The second layer runs across the joists rather than along them. That covers the timber itself, which is where a surprising amount of heat escapes in a loft insulated only between the joists.

🔢

Done in the Right Order

Insulation first, boarding second. Once a floor is down, topping up underneath means taking it back up, so we do it while the loft is already open.

🌬️

Eaves Left Breathing

Insulation pushed hard into the eaves blocks the airflow the roof relies on. We keep those paths clear, which is what stops a well-insulated loft turning into a damp one.
